The Federal High Court in Abuja has indefinitely suspended the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), following a recusal order issued by Justice Binta Nyako.

Justice Nyako had withdrawn from the case on September 24, 2024, after Kanu requested her removal, expressing doubts about her impartiality.
In response to her recusal, she forwarded the case file to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho. However, in an unexpected turn, Tsoho returned the file to Nyako, directing her to continue with the trial.
Despite this directive, proceedings have been put on hold indefinitely.
Kanu, who has been in custody since 2021 following his arrest in Kenya and extradition to Nigeria, is facing terrorism charges brought by the Federal Government.
