Asiya Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, daughter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman and former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has been nominated as Director of Community & Rural Development in the newly established North-West Development Commission (NWDC).
Her nomination is part of a list of 11 individuals put forward by the National Assembly to serve as directors in the commission, some of whom are relatives of prominent political figures.

The nominations were detailed in a letter titled “Joint Proposal of the Speaker and the Deputy President of the Senate for Those to Serve as Directors of Departments of the North-West Development Commission.”
The letter, signed by Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, was addressed to President Bola Tinubu.
Also on the list is the son of former Sokoto State Governor and serving Senator Aliyu Wamakko, who has been selected as Director of Planning, Research, Statistics, and Management Information System.
Other nominees include Khalil Bako, who has been nominated to oversee Administration and Human Resources, while Mustapha Ahmed Ibrahim is set to head Environmental Protection and Control, Utilities Infrastructural Development. Sanusi Bala Turaki has been nominated as Director of Finance & Supply, with Muhammed Kabir Sani proposed for Legal Services
The North-West Development Commission (NWDC) was established following the signing of its bill into law by President Bola Tinubu on July 24, 2024.
The bill, sponsored by Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, aims to address the developmental challenges in Nigeria’s North-West region. The commission is led by Chairman Ambassador Haruna Ginsau from Jigawa State and Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Professor Abdullahi Shehu Ma’aji from Kano State.
