The Nigeria Police Force has clarified that Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, was invited for questioning and not arrested, as claimed by Rimingado.

The police force spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that the police received a petition against Rimingado on January 17 and subsequently invited him to assist with their investigation.

The police clarified that the invitation was routine and urged Rimingado to cooperate with the investigation rather than escalating the matter in the media.

This denial comes shortly after a Kano High Court issued an interim order restraining the police from arresting, inviting, or harassing Rimingado. The order, issued by Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji, also applies to the Inspector General of Police, the AIG Zone One, and the Kano Commissioner of Police.

The court’s decision followed a suit filed by the Kano State Attorney General, the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, and Rimingado.

The court directed all parties to maintain the status quo pending the determination of the substantive suit.
