The Court of Appeal in Akure, Ondo State, has upheld the death sentence of Dr. Ramon Adedoyin, owner of Hilton Hotels and Resorts, over the murder of Timothy Adegoke, a former Master’s student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.

Adegoke checked into Adedoyin’s hotel on November 5, 2021, in preparation for his examinations at the OAU Distance Learning Centre but was reported missing shortly after.

His lifeless body was later found buried in a shallow grave, sparking a police investigation that led to Adedoyin’s arrest and trial.

Delivering the ruling on Thursday, the appellate court affirmed the decision of the Osun State High Court, which convicted Adedoyin and sentenced him to death.

“The conviction and sentencing were properly delivered,” the court stated, dismissing Adedoyin’s appeal in part.

However, the court overturned the previous orders mandating the forfeiture of Hilton Hotel and the provision of scholarships for Adegoke’s children.
