Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has distributed 7,158 red goats to 2,386 women under the second phase of the Women Empowerment Initiative.
The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, explained in a statement on Tuesday that the programme, valued at N2.3 billion, is designed to combat poverty and encourage economic self-reliance across Kano State.

Beneficiaries from all 44 local government areas received three goats each to support their involvement in livestock entrepreneurship.
He also revealed that upcoming phases of the programme would include the distribution of 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youth. Dawakin-Tofa stressed the importance of accountability, urging the beneficiaries to use the livestock for its intended purpose.
Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to poverty alleviation through inclusive and innovative approaches. He noted that integrating women and youth into the agricultural value chain would help increase household incomes and reduce reliance on government aid.
The initiative is part of the Livestock Fattening Programme of the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project.
