The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kano State Command has arrested six individuals involved in a motorcycle theft syndicate operating in Kumbotso Local Government Area.

Daily News 24 reports that this information was released in a press statement on January 20, 2025, signed by SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, CDPRO, Kano Command.

The suspects, who specialized in violently attacking and stealing motorcycles from unsuspecting members of the public, have been taken into custody, and investigations are ongoing for further legal action.

The arrested suspects are identified as Najib Lawal (25), Bashir Bello Idris (34), Lawan Yakubu (27), Kabiru Garba (29), Hussain Hassan (24), and Mubarak Basiru (21). Two other gang members remain at large, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend them.

On January 14, 2025, Mubarak Basiru and Hussain Hassan broke into the home of Malam Abdullahi Bala in Gurin Gawa, Kumbotso, at 3:00 AM. They assaulted him and stole his motorcycle. The two thieves were apprehended with the help of local vigilantes and the NSCDC Kumbotso division. Four additional suspects, including two individuals who received stolen motorcycles, were also arrested.

Two stolen motorcycles have been recovered so far, with further efforts underway to retrieve more.

Commandant Mohammed Lawal Falala, FCNA, has directed the NSCDC Armed Squad unit to increase patrols around the Eastern Bypass and other areas of the city to prevent further criminal activity.
