The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has announced a ban on street hawking and other unauthorized activities within Maiduguri metropolis.

In a statement on Friday, the General Manager of the board, Mr. Limán Mustapha, said the decision aligns with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002.

He stated that the ban affects street hawking, tricycle operations, and generator repair activities, particularly around the Post Office and Monday Market areas. Additionally, activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts have been prohibited, along with the sale of engine oil on road reservations, dumping of building materials, mixing cement on roads, and drilling boreholes by roadsides.

“The board has no alternative but to arrest and prosecute defaulters in a court of law,” Mustapha warned, emphasizing that the measure aims to maintain a clean, safe, and organized urban environment in Maiduguri and beyond.

He urged residents and business operators to adhere to the directive to avoid facing legal consequences.
