The Kano State Internal Revenue Service (KIRS) has launched an online platform, eeZitax, to streamline tax payment and annual return filing processes.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Kano, the Executive Chairman of KIRS, Zaid Abubakar, announced the platform’s launch, urging taxpayers to utilize it for efficient and timely tax filing.

“To access the e-tax platform, taxpayers should visit etax.kirs.gov.ng and follow the prompts to complete and submit their annual tax returns electronically,” Mr. Abubakar stated.

He further noted that a user guide is available online at etax.kirs.gov.ng/manuals to assist taxpayers with the process.

The chairman emphasized that the deadline for filing annual tax returns is January 31, 2025. He warned that failure to meet this deadline would violate Section 41(1)(2) of the Personal Income Tax Act 2011 (as amended).

“This is to inform all employers of labour that the deadline for filing annual tax returns is January 31, 2025. Failure to comply constitutes a contravention of the law,” he said.

Mr. Abubakar explained that the annual tax returns must include each employee’s total emoluments for the year, applicable tax reliefs, and the total tax deducted.

“In line with our commitment to improving taxpayer services and efficiency, we are pleased to announce that all taxpayers can now file their returns through the newly introduced online portal eeZitax,” he added.

He also cautioned that failure to comply with the deadline would attract a penalty of N500,000, as stipulated under Section 81(3) of the Personal Income Tax Act, 2011 (as amended).

Mr. Abubakar called on all corporate organizations and employers to ensure compliance before the deadline to avoid penalties.
