The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone E, has given the Federal Government a 14-day ultimatum to mobilize contractors to resume work on four major road projects in the northeast region.

The move comes after prolonged delays in the completion of the projects, which have caused significant hardship for students, commuters, and residents.

In a press release, Zone E Coordinator Umar Afkawa stated that if the government fails to act within the specified period, mass protests will be organized across Adamawa, Gombe, Taraba, and Borno states. The affected road projects include the Numan-Gombe, Numan-Jalingo, Damaturu-Buni Yafi, and the Biu-Garkida roads.

“The failure of the contractors to resume work on these projects has caused untold hardship to students, commuters, and residents,” Afkawa said. He also called on the Minister of Works, David Umahi, to provide a comprehensive timeline for the completion of the roads and address any issues hindering progress.

Afkawa emphasized that the association would take further action if the government did not respond within the 14-day period, stating, “The association will mobilize students and community members to demand action and engage relevant stakeholders to escalate concerns.”
