President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to conduct the groundbreaking of 4,000 housing units in Lagos and Kano States as part of his administration’s Renewed Hope Cities and Estates programme.

The initiative includes 2,500 housing units in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, and 1,500 units in Kano.

The Minister of Housing, Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa, disclosed that the project is being funded through the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) and a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement. He added that over 10,000 housing units across 14 construction sites are currently ongoing nationwide under the Renewed Hope agenda.

Dangiwa, speaking during an engagement with the Central Results Delivery Coordination Unit (CRDCU), emphasized the need for increased funding to address the housing deficit in the country. “The ministry needs a bigger budgetary allocation for housing units… we have engaged the National Assembly, and they have expressed willingness to support N500bn budget for the ministry in 2025,” he said.

Highlighting the ministry’s achievements, Dangiwa revealed that more than 100 projects aimed at urban renewal and slum upgrades are ongoing nationwide, with 60 already completed. He further called for a minimum of N50 billion annually to drive sustainable urban development.

In her remarks, Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, emphasized the importance of data-driven governance to track project timelines effectively. She noted that the ministry’s deliverables include reviewing the Land Use Act and constructing at least 20,000 affordable housing units annually to meet infrastructural needs.

The CRDCU recommended a more coordinated approach to project tracking to enhance the timely completion of the ministry’s initiatives.
