Mrs. Edith Thomas, the wife of Charles Kurobo, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, has raised an alarm over the alleged abduction of her husband by armed men last week.

According to her, Charles Kurobo was forcefully taken from their home on Opolo Road near Saipem in the early hours of November 19, 2024.

Mrs. Thomas revealed that a convoy of about 15 vehicles, including armed policemen and personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), stormed their home around midnight. She described the scene as terrifying, with gunshots and loud shouts demanding that her husband surrender. In a desperate attempt to protect their family, Charles Kurobo reportedly complied with the demands.

“Looking from our shattered window, we saw that those that came were dressed in police uniforms and vests. Some were putting on civil defence uniforms. The vehicles were many and close to fifteen. It looks like a total invasion,” Mrs. Thomas explained, visibly emotional.

Charles Kurobo, a former aide to Governor Douye Diri and Chairman of the Niger Delta Ex-agitators’ Leadership Forum (Second Phase), Bayelsa chapter, has been an outspoken critic of the management of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP) and the handling of the Pipeline Surveillance contracts awarded to the Tantita Security Company, owned by former militant leader High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, also known as Tompolo.

In her desperate plea, Mrs. Thomas recounted the family’s efforts to locate her husband. After the incident, they visited the Bayelsa State Police Command headquarters, where they were told that Charles Kurobo was not in their custody and that the police were not involved in the operation.

Several subsequent visits to the police and the Department of State Security (DSS) yielded no information, increasing her concern for his safety.

“We were told he was not in their custody and that they were not involved in the operation,” she said, adding that the family had no leads on his whereabouts.

Fearing for her husband’s life, Mrs. Thomas called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and Governor Douye Diri to help locate her husband. “The Police and Governor Diri are the only hope I have to find my husband. Please help us before something bad is done to him,” she pleaded.
