The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at around 1:51 a.m. According to the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the agency received a distress call from ASP U.I. Bushira of the Dakata Police Division reporting the fire at Kasuwar Brigade Yan Katako.

“The command received an emergency call for assistance over an outbreak of fire at Kasuwar Brigade Yan Katako at about 01:51 a.m.,” Abdullahi stated.

He explained that the fire service team from the Bompai station was dispatched immediately and arrived at the scene around 1:56 a.m. “On their arrival, they found two shops engulfed in flames. With the efforts of our men, the situation was brought under control,” he said.

Abdullahi noted that a second fire started shortly after, affecting another two shops. He attributed the cause of the fire to an electrical fault.
