The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the 2024 Supplementary Budget into law.

The additional budget is aimed at funding the new minimum wage for the state workforce and implementing various projects across the 44 local government areas.

The passage followed the adoption of a report by the House joint committee on appropriation, local governments, and chieftaincy affairs during Tuesday’s plenary session, which was presided over by Speaker Rt. Hon. Isma’il Falgore.

Speaking after the session, Alhaji Sa’adu Ungoggo, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, emphasized that the supplementary bill will cover the new minimum wage and fund critical projects across the local government areas. He stated, “The committee carefully scrutinized the 2024 supplementary budget and made necessary adjustments to align with the needs and expectations of the citizens.”

In another development, the House also passed the Kano State Public Health Security Amendment Bill 2024. The Majority Leader, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini, noted that the bill, originally passed in February 2024, required a third reading, which led to its recall.

He explained that the bill provides a framework for public health surveillance, emergency management, and the protection of healthcare workers during crises. After the third reading by Deputy Clerk Alhaji Nasiru Magashi, the bill was unanimously approved by the House.
