Former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has sharply criticized the Kano State government’s claim that protesters stole the corruption case file of former Governor Umar Ganduje.

Sowore, a human rights activist, contends that this statement should not delay Ganduje’s trial.

Dailynews24 reported on Wednesday that Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf disclosed that hired criminals had destroyed the state High Court buildings and stolen property valued at ₦1 billion.

This information was provided to the media by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Tofa described the situation as “very unfortunate,” alleging that “enemies of Kano State” hired vandals to target the historic building in an attempt to obstruct corruption charges against Ganduje and his associates.

Sowore responded by drawing a parallel with a similar claim made by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu about the burning of President Bola Tinubu’s case files during the 2020 EndSARS protests.

On his X handle, Sowore stated, “They should get a copy from Bello Galadanchi (a satirist and skitmaker, known as Dan Bello). Talk of jokers in high places. So, are all the documents with the courts alone, and are there no copies with investigators, lawyers, and prosecutors? Reminds me of how the Lagos State government claimed Bola Tinubu’s corruption case files were burnt during #EndSARS.”
