The website of GTBank, one of Nigeria’s leading financial institutions, was hacked on Wednesday night, rendering it inaccessible.

As of 10:30 PM, attempts to access www.gtbank.com resulted in error messages, prompting numerous customer complaints on social media.

The hacking incident occurred following the renewal of the bank’s domain name for a five-year period, from August 13, 2024, to March 21, 2029, as reported by domain analysis platforms.

A cybersecurity expert with knowledge of the Nigerian banking sector suggested that the breach might involve compromised login credentials rather than the theft of the domain address for resale.

As of this report, GTBank has not issued any official statement regarding the situation.
