Legendary Nigerian singer and actress Onyeka Onwenu has passed away at the age of 72.

She reportedly died on Tuesday night at Reddington Hospital in Lagos after collapsing at the birthday party of Mrs. Stella Okoli.

According to TheNiche, an eyewitness at the party confirmed the tragic news. “It’s very sad. Onyeka Onwenu performed at Mrs. Stella Okoli’s birthday party today (Tuesday, July 30, 2024).

After her performance, she collapsed and was rushed to Reddington Hospital, where she unfortunately did not survive,” the eyewitness said.

As of now, the family has not yet made a formal announcement regarding her death.

Onwenu is remembered for her influential music albums, including “In The Morning Light” and “Dancing In The Sun,” as well as her roles in films such as “Half of a Yellow Sun” and “Lionheart.”
