The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, announced on Monday that President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a mandate secretariat for youth affairs in the nation’s capital.

Wike shared this development during an interactive engagement with stakeholders in the Bwari area council.

During the event, Minister Wike also addressed the residents’ concerns, urging them to cancel the planned nationwide protests scheduled for August 1 and 10. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and not participating in the #EndBadGovernance protest.

The FCT Minister has been actively engaging with various communities across the territory. Similar interactive sessions were held with residents of Gwagwalada, Kuje, Kwali, the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and Abaji. In these sessions, Wike reiterated his call for youths to refrain from participating in the protests.

Highlighting President Tinubu’s commitment to Nigerian youths, Wike stated, “On Saturday, I told the people of AMAC, when they requested the establishment of the youth secretariat, that I knew that when I met Mr. President, he would approve it.”

He continued, “Yesterday, while in Kwali, I repeated what I said. I want to bring you good news. I saw the president last night, and he has approved the establishment of a secretariat for youth affairs.”

This initiative is seen as a significant step towards addressing the needs and concerns of young people in the FCT, providing a dedicated platform for youth engagement and development. The establishment of the youth affairs secretariat is expected to foster better communication and collaboration between the government and the youth, ensuring that their voices are heard and their issues addressed.

As the FCT moves forward with this new development, the minister’s appeal for peace and cooperation from the residents highlights the administration’s focus on unity and progress within the territory.
