Daily News 24, a leading online news platform in Nigeria, proudly announces that its editorial board member, Idris Mohammed, has been awarded a prestigious scholarship to pursue advanced studies in the United States. His research will focus on the mental health challenges faced by journalists covering terrorism across Africa.

According to the management of Daily News 24, Mohammed’s research will address the critical lack of expert support and formal mechanisms available to journalists and other victims of conflict-related trauma—a gap deeply felt not only in Nigeria but across the continent.

Throughout his distinguished career, Mohammed has produced hard-hitting investigative reports on terrorism networks operating within the Lake Chad Basin. His work has also provided in-depth analyses of peacebuilding efforts in Northern Nigeria. His dedication, integrity, and significant contributions to national development earned him a place on the newspaper’s editorial board.

Since joining the board, Mohammed has authored groundbreaking stories that have influenced policy discussions, facilitated humanitarian interventions, and supported reconciliation in communities devastated by terror and conflict.

Daily News 24 Editor, Nazifi Dawud noted that Mohammed’s scholarship will also enhance collaboration with U.S.-based organizations, expanding the scope of his impact beyond Nigeria to the entire African continent. The United States, recognized as a global leader in counterterrorism and a strong advocate for press freedom, offers an ideal environment for this critical work.

Upon completing his studies, Mohammed plans to collaborate with journalism bodies and NGOs to pilot trauma-informed support programs for media professionals across Africa—an initiative expected to build resilience among frontline journalists reporting from high-risk regions.

To celebrate his achievements and send him off in style, Daily News 24 will host a reception in his honor ahead of his departure, recognizing his exceptional work and anticipating the valuable expertise he will bring back to the newsroom and beyond.
