Residents of Gaya town in Gaya local government area of Kano state have performed special prayers and embarked on a peaceful protest over the dissolution of the Gaya Emirate by Governor Abba Yusuf.

Daily News 24 reports that the residents, who performed a 2-unit special prayers for peace in the town also carried placards expressing their disappointment with the decision of the state government to abolish the emirate.

Recall that Governor Yusuf on Wednesday had signed a new law that aborted the five emirates in Kano, Bichi, Gaya, Rano and Karaye to pave way for the reinstatement of the 14th Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II.

Mr Sanusi had been deposed in 2020 by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje due to a protracted political dispute.
