The Nigerian Army has declared eight suspects wanted in connection with the killing of 17 soldiers in the Okuama community in Delta state.

Daily News 24 reports that the Army disclosed this in its official X handle on Thursday.

The persons declared wanted include seven men and one woman.

They are Akevwru Daniel Omotegbono, Prof Ekpekpo Arthur, Andaowei Dennis Bakriki, Igoli Ebi (female), Akata Malawa David, Sinclear Oliki, Clement Ikolo Oghenerukevwe and Reuben Baru.

On Wednesday the 17 soldiers, including their Commanding Officer, a lieutenant colonel, two majors and four captains were buried at the National Military Cemetary in Abuja in an event attended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

President Tinubu also conferred posthumous national honours awards of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON) on the deceased soldiers during the burial ceremony.

He urged other army officers and soldiers not to be discouraged by the death of their comrades, noting that the fight against criminals, bandits and terrorists must continue in other to secure the country.

On his part, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said “the event at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja was particularly personal for me as the troops were led by their late Commanding Officer, the Kano-born Lieutenant Colonel Abdullahi Hassan Ali.”

“We shall continue to honor the memory of our fallen heroes. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and protect our troops,” he added in a post on his verified X handle on Thursday.
