The Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food, in collaboration with Lagos Free Zone, a venture of the Tolaram Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to construct a grain terminal in Nigeria’s Lekki port.

This partnership comes as Ukraine aims to rebuild its food export capabilities following the destruction of its terminals during the conflict with Russia.

The MoU was signed during the Ukraine Recovery Conference in London, with Taras Vysotsky, the Ukrainian First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, representing the Ukrainian.

The collaboration aims to establish essential infrastructure to ensure a continuous supply of Ukrainian agricultural products to Nigeria and the African continent as a whole, with the primary goal of enhancing food security in regions with significant needs.

According to Vysotsky ” The Ukrainian agrarian sector will continue playing an important role in ensuring international food security, especially when the world population is increasing.”

The Lekki Deep Sea Port, being Nigeria’s first fully automated port, serves as the project’s location.

It is a joint endeavor involving the Nigerian government, Lagos state, the owner of Lagos Free Zone, and the China Harbor Engineering Company.
