There are less than 50 days left until the Qatar World Cup, and the world of soccer has already received big news before the tournament begins.

Lionel Messi, in a conversation with Sebastián Vignolo, has confirmed that the Qatar will be his last ever World Cup.

Argentina are one of the favourites to win this year’s edition of the tournament.

After winning the Copa América in 2021 and the Finalissima against Italy, Argentina have accumulated an undefeated streak of 35 matches.

Messi will captain his international side at the World Cup, and it looks like it could very well be his last time.

In a recent interview, Journalist Sebastián Vignolo questioned Messi on his future. “Is it the last one?”, he asked to which Messi replied: “Yes, it will be.”

Messi confessed that he is looking forward to the World Cup and battling it out for the trophy he so desires: “I am counting the days until the World Cup, the truth is yes, there is a bit of anxiety because we can’t wait to play.

“On the other hand, there is a certain tension ahead of the tournament.”

Messi also referred to the his team’s chances of winning the World Cup in Qatar: “We are in a very good moment because of the way things have turned out, with a very strong group, but anything can happen in a World Cup.

All the matches are very difficult, that’s why a World Cup is so special because the favorites don’t always end up winning or performing as expected”, explained the the football legend.

“Argentina is always a candidate because of its history,” he emphasised.

It was in 2014 when Messi came so close to winning the world’s most prestigious international tournament.

The now PSG striker was outstanding throughout the tournament, but he and his team fell at the final hurdle against Germany.
