The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says accurate data collation and analysis is key to road traffic crash records.
Assistant Corp Marshal Jonathan Owoade, South-south Zonal Commander made this known on Friday in Port Harcourt at a one-day retreat for officers and Corp Marshals in the zone.
The theme for the retreat “Repositioning FRSC, Zone 6, through Effective, Efficient and Timely Data Collation” is aimed at re-training officers on modern approaches to data collation and analysis.
Owoade said that knowledge gained from the exercise would further assist the FRSC build a more accessible, timely and reliable database where road traffic related information is stored.
He, however, condemned attitude by some members of the public who indulge in lowering the country’s roadworthiness and safety standards by generating outrageous and unconfirmed road traffic related information.
“Sometimes, the public go as far as generating outrageous figures of casualties and fatalities.
“To this end, FRSC has opened up desk offices across local government areas to enable officers liaise with the Police, hospitals and other agencies in charge of records on road traffic crashes and deaths to enhance accuracy,” he said.
The Zonal Commander also urged road users to remain cautious about traffic rules while also pledging robust collaboration with sister agencies in tackling emergencies for a hitch-free Ember month celebration.
Earlier, the guest lecturer, Prof. Williams Ubulom, Facility of Education in the Department of Educational Measurements and Evaluation, Rivers State University applauded the resilience of officers.
Ubulom, who is also a Special Marshal, noted that the essence for the retreat was to further train participants on need to embrace an all inclusive, fast and globally accepted methods for data collation and analysis using the internet.
He also demonstrated various technical methods for data analysis using graphic charts and other internet enhanced applications.
The event also featured presentation of commendation letters by the Zonal Commander to 11 officers in the zone.
The Rivers State Sector Commander, Salisu Galadunci, his Cross Rivers State counterpart were among beneficiaries.(NAN)
