The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says Lassa fever has claimed 168 lives in 25 States.

NCDC, in a situation report, said the States affected are Rivers, Katsina, Kano, Lagos, Kebbi, Niger, Adamawa, Imo, FCT, Delta, Kano, Imo, Kaduna, Anambra, Plateau, Nasarawa, Enugu, Oyo, Gombe, Taraba, Benue, Ebonyi, Kogi, Bauchi, Edo, Ondo.

In the situation report, out of the 6304 suspected cases, 889 cases were confirmed during the period.

NCDC confirms 13 new cases of Lassa fever

It explained that cumulatively from week 1 to week 32, 2022, 168 deaths have been reported with a case fatality rate (CFR) of 18.9 percent, which is lower than the CFR for the same period in 2021 (23.4 percent).

It further explained, “In total for 2022, 25 States have recorded at least one confirmed case across 101 Local Government Areas.”

It stated that of all the confirmed cases, Ondo has 70 percent (31 percent), (26 percent) in Edo, and (13 percent) in Bauchi States.

The report further explained that the National Lassa fever multi-partner, multi-sectoral Technical Working Group (TWG) continues to coordinate the response activities at all levels, stressing that no new healthcare worker was affected in the reporting week 32.
