Police in Kano have arrested some members of the Shehu Shagagi-led executives of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for vandalizing and disrupting meeting of the factional leaders at Tahir Hotel, Kano.

Those arrested are the State Treasurer, Idi Zare Rogo; State Financial Secretary, Dahiru Arrow Dakata; Hafizu Bunkure, State Youth Leader and; PDP chairman in Kumbotso local government, Idi Mariri.

Although police are yet to make statement on the matter, security sources said they are currently at the command headquarters in Bompai, answering questions over the incident.

the PDP exco members stormed into the hotel suite occupied by some members of the Aminu Wali-led faction, disrupted their meeting, beat up some of the members, ransacked the room, carted away documents and computers.

Sources said the Sagagi-led faction, which was recognized by the court, is in conflict with the party’s headquarters and suspected that the members of the committee for national delegate election had pitched tent with the Wali faction.

“On the ground of this suspicion, they broke into the room and disrupted their meeting, thinking that they were writing the names of the delegates before the congress,” said a source familiar with the matter.

The National Working Committee, NWC of the PDP, however, postponed the party’s local government congress to elect one LGA national delegate earlier scheduled for Thursday, May 5 nationwide.
