Mr Salihu Adamu, Nasarawa state Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), has said that the newly inaugurated Sani Abacha Bus Terminal would decongest 99 per cent traffic in the Karu area.

Adamu stated this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Karu, on Friday, on the side lines of the inauguration by President Muhammadu Buhari, who is on a two-day working visit to Nasarawa state, to inaugurate different projects executed by Gov. Abdullahi Sule.

According to him, the Sani Abacha Modern Bus Terminal will end illegal motor parks sprawling across Karu, with its attendant effects on traffic congestion to Mararaba, Ado and Masaka respectively.

He also said that a law would soon be passed to punish motorists who refused to comply, in order to regulate picking and stopping of passengers.

Adamu noted that more designated bus stops would be created on the Mararaba, Ado and Masaka routes, to check indiscriminate picking and stopping of passengers.

The union chairman commended Sule for his efforts in restoring sanity on the Karu and Lafia roads, as well as the entire Nasarawa state.

He gave the assurance that NURTW members were ready to comply with the new regulations regarding picking and stopping of passengers.

“This is one of the projects that is so dear to the people of Karu. For years now, people have been experiencing serious traffic congestion caused by illegal parks.

“With the commissioning of the bus terminal, it will solve 99 per cent of the traffic problems,” he said.

Mr Abdullahi Usman, a resident, told NAN that opening of the terminal had brought respite to Karu, especially Mararaba and Ado axis, adding that productive hours would no longer be wasted in gridlocks.

Also, Mr Christina Abutu, a trader in Karu, said that the terminal would not only decongest traffic but also boost economic activities and create jobs for the people. (NAN)
