Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria says it has attracted over N10 billion funding for infrastructural development in 2021.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, stated this in a statement by Malam Auwalu Umar, Director, Public Affairs Directorate of the university, on Sunday in Zaria.
The statement said the vice-chancellor disclosed this at the university’s 80th Ordinary Meeting of Congregation held on Jan. 20.
Bala was quoted as saying that the university secured N5 billion Presidential Special Intervention for development of Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Dentistry and Department of Mechatronics.
He said that N1 billion was donated to the university by Abdulsamad Rabiu Africa Initiative for the construction and furnishing of one block of students’ hostel and a new structure for the Department of Building.
The vice chancellor said the university also got another N1 billion Presidential Special Intervention for establishment of Endourology and Kidney Transplant Facility and Next Generation Sequencing Facility for infectious diseases.
The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), he said, allocated N825 million for the construction and furnishing of two blocks of students’ hostel while the university attracted N700 million Special Intervention for completion of its 1,000-seater auditorium.
According to him, more efforts are being made to secure more grant for the university this year.
The statement also quoted the vice-chancellor as expressing delight that students and staff of the university had continued to excel in national and international competitions.
“A student team from the Department of Chemical Engineering clinched second position at the 2021 National Design Project Competition organised by the Nigerian Chemical Engineering Society.
“A student team from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences won first position at the 2021 Competition organised by the Pharmacy Society of Nigeria.
“Another student team from the Department of Computer Engineering emerged the best at the 2021 Innovation Competition organised by the Nigerian Society of Engineers,” Bala was quoted as saying in the statement. (NAN)
