Former Senator Dino Melaye has alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari’s refusal to sign the Electoral Bill was due to fear of electronic transmission of results.

Recall that Buhari had declined assent to the 2021 Electoral Act Amendment bill recently transmitted to him by the National Assembly.

The President had said signing the bill into law would cause trouble among the political parties in the country. He had also cited insecurity as one of the reasons for withholding his assent.

The most contentious issue he pointed out was the inclusion of compulsory direct primaries for political parties.

But Dino Melaye in a post on his verified Facebook page on Wednesday said the move was part of plots to rig the 2023 election by stopping electronic transmission which was also contained in the bill.

The post reads, “The rejection of the electoral bill by President Buhari is part of a deliberate plan to delay the signing so that time will lapse and become impossible to implement the bill.

“The main problem is the electronic transmission of results. They don’t want it. The entire story on Direct primary is a fluke. Dino”.
