Kano State House of Assembly has urged the state government to come to aid flood-ravaged communities in the Tudun-Wada Local Government Area of the state.

This followed the adoption of a motion under urgent public importance moved by Alhaji Iliyasu Yaryasa (APC-Tudun-Wada) at the plenary, presided over by the Speaker, Hamisu Ibrahim-Chidari, on Monday.

Presenting the motion, Yaryasa said that the flood had washed away more than 400 farms in Yaryasa and Rugu-Rugu communities within the council area.

“Therefore, we are appealing to the state government to come to the aid of the people of the agrarian communities who solely rely on farming as a source of livelihood,” he said.

The lawmaker explained that Tiga Dam in Bebeji Local Government Area was the main source of water to River Dikko that washed away people’s farmlands.

According to him, if the Dam is managed well, the annual flooding will be a thing of the past.

The motion was supported by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Zubairu Massu (APC-Sumaila) and was fully deliberated upon by the lawmakers.

After exhaustive debates, the assembly unanimously adopted the motion and urged the state government to take necessary action on the issue.

They also urged the state government to direct relevant authorities to assist the affected farmers.

The assembly equally implored those in charge of Tiga Dam to ensure proper water management to avert or reduce future occurrence.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Kano State Permissible Weight Bridge Bill 2021 also passed the second reading. (NAN)
