The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Sunday in Ilorin recorded an emphatic 3-0 win over Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at the ongoing 2021 Nigeria Volleyball League.
In one of the Match Day 5 games at the competition, Customs won the first set 25-20.
They maintained the lead with the same margin in the second set before rounding up victory with a 25-19 win in the third set.
NSCDC, who were unbeaten before the game, came with much promise, but a well-motivated NCS defeated them with class.
The coach of NCS, Jonah Adamu, dedicated the win over NSCDC to their Controller-General, Hameed Ali, saying the retired Army Colonel has been motivating the team.
Adamu also said Customs had no option other than to beat NSCDC because they lost to Kano Pillars on Match Day 2.
“The team is dedicating this win to the NCS Controller-General because, during our free day, we were motivated by him.
“He told us that the pride of the Service was at stake, and we had no choice but to beat NSCDC.
“If you recall, we lost to Kano Pillars a few days ago, and it will be disastrous if we had lost to NSCDC.
“NSCDC gave a good account of themselves, but the experienced players in our side won the game for us,” he said.
However, the former national team player said Customs would not be distracted by the win over NSCDC, adding that every other game at the competition was equally important.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that another Match Day 5 fixture saw Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) beating Nigeria Police Force (NPF) 25-20 25-19 25-22 for a 3-0 win.
Sunshine Spikers of Akure shocked Kano Pillars 25-22 in the first set before losing 1-3, after their opponents won 25-18 25-23 36-34.
