Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has ordered a review of Northwest University’s land holdings to identify and revoke any illegal allocations or encroachments carried out by previous administrations.

According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the directive was issued on Thursday during the 35th State Executive Council meeting, where the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, led members of the university’s Governing Council to formally introduce Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor.
Governor Yusuf also welcomed Prof. Bayero, the first female substantive Vice Chancellor of the state-owned university, and urged her to work diligently with all stakeholders to promote academic excellence during her five-year tenure.
In addition, the governor announced that all outstanding earned academic allowances owed to university staff would be cleared before the end of December, demonstrating the government’s commitment to resolving institutional challenges.
Prof. Bayero, who began her career as a pioneer academic staff at Northwest University, expressed gratitude for her appointment and presented a 14-point agenda aimed at repositioning the university for stronger academic and administrative performance.
The Pro-Chancellor highlighted that the rigorous, ten-month selection process for the new Vice Chancellor received unanimous approval from the Governing Council and noted that the appointment of the first female VC has been widely welcomed.
Governor Yusuf concluded by expressing optimism that under Prof. Bayero’s leadership, Northwest University would witness enhanced institutional growth and improved academic standards.
