In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command said the arrest was prompted by public outrage over the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025.
The police said Hamzat’s actions posed a serious threat to public safety, noting that the video captured him operating a vehicle in a dangerous manner before being involved in a serious collision during the live broadcast. He was subsequently taken into custody pending further investigation.
Describing the act as “extremely dangerous,” the command warned that the stunt could have resulted in loss of lives, including those of innocent road users. The police added that the behaviour amounted to a deliberate endangerment of both the driver and members of the public.
According to the statement, the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation. The command said the outcome of the probe would be made public and that the suspect would be charged in court upon its conclusion.
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, CP Olohundare Jimoh, cautioned social media users and content creators against promoting illegal or reckless behaviour online. He stressed that the police would no longer tolerate such actions and would apply the law without bias.
