The Police Service Commission has announced the start of a major recruitment exercise to enlist 50,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force, following the approval of President Bola Tinubu.

In a statement released on Thursday by its Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, Torty Kalu, the Commission said the online application portal will open to qualified Nigerians from December 15, 2025, and will close on January 25, 2026.

According to the PSC, the recruitment is part of the President’s broader plan to strengthen community-based policing, boost internal security and increase the manpower available to the police as the country continues to confront rising security challenges.

The move follows the national security emergency declared by President Tinubu on 26 November 2025, during which he directed security agencies to bring in additional personnel to tackle widespread insecurity.

Kalu explained that the portal has now been activated to receive applications for both General-Duty and Specialist positions. The General-Duty category requires candidates to possess GCE O’Level, SSCE/NECO or an equivalent certificate with at least five credits, including English and Mathematics, earned in no more than two sittings.

For the Specialist stream, applicants must present at least four credits, including English and Mathematics, also within two sittings, alongside a minimum of three years of relevant experience and valid trade-test certificates.

All applicants must be Nigerian citizens by birth. General-Duty candidates must fall between the ages of 18 and 25, while those applying for Specialist roles must be 18 to 28. The minimum height requirement remains 1.67m for men and 1.64m for women.

The PSC stressed that submissions will only be accepted through the designated online portal.
