The governor made the announcement on Tuesday evening at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo, where top officials of the Accord Party were present. His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed in a statement that Adeleke will now pursue his second-term ambition on the party’s platform.
Adeleke’s defection comes after a resignation letter dated November 4 surfaced online on December 1—just days before the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conducted its primary, which produced Adebayo Adedamola as its flagbearer.
Speaking during the declaration, the governor said he formally joined the Accord Party on November 6 following extensive consultations with political allies, community leaders, and grassroots stakeholders. He said the party’s focus on welfarism aligns with his commitment to improving the lives of workers and residents.
The governor described his new alliance as a collective effort to strengthen governance in Osun State, noting that inclusive leadership remains central to his administration. He reaffirmed that his government continues to prioritize welfare-driven initiatives across infrastructure, social development, and service delivery.
Adeleke expressed confidence that the Accord Party provides the structure needed to sustain the achievements recorded since 2022. He said the party will serve as the vehicle for continued progress as the state prepares for the August 2026 governorship poll.
He concluded by declaring himself a governorship aspirant under the Accord Party, stating that the move reflects the aspirations of Osun stakeholders and citizens who seek continuity in governance.
