A tragic fire outbreak in the Kofar Sauri area of Katsina city has claimed the lives of a husband, his wife, and their three children in the early hours of Monday.
The incident occurred while the family was asleep. Witnesses said the fire started from the corridor of the house before spreading rapidly, leaving the victims with no escape route.

The deceased were identified as 35-year-old Muhammad Habibu, his wife Fatima, and their children Khadija, Abubakar and Aliyu. Residents revealed that Habibu worked as a temporary staff member with the Katsina State Water Board.
Neighbours linked the inferno to an electrical surge that occurred shortly after power was restored, a problem they described as frequent in the area. By the time firefighters arrived, the blaze had already caused extensive destruction despite efforts by residents to contain it.
While some community members blamed recurring power fluctuations from KEDCO for the tragedy, the electricity company dismissed the claims, insisting it was premature to attribute the incident to them.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the fire.
