Former Kano State governor and ex-National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed the call for his arrest by the Kano State Government, describing it as an act of desperation and incompetence.

The reaction was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu. Ganduje said the allegation that he made comments related to forming a militia group was unfounded, arguing that the government’s position lacked substance and responsibility.

He accused Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration of abandoning its primary duty of securing lives and property. According to him, the government should be addressing rising insecurity across communities instead of focusing on political accusations.

Ganduje said communities in areas such as Bagwai, Shanono, and Tsanyawa continue to experience security threats, yet the governor has not shown empathy or visited affected residents. He argued that this failure reflects a disconnect between the governor and the people he leads.

The former governor insisted he has never been linked to violence or any action capable of destabilising the state. He maintained that during his eight-year tenure, Kano enjoyed stability and earned national recognition for sustained peace.

He urged Governor Yusuf to concentrate on fulfilling his constitutional duty to protect residents rather than issuing what it described as baseless claims aimed at diverting public attention.

Ganduje added that leadership requires responsibility, compassion, and decisive action, not frequent press briefings or allegations targeted at political opponents.
