The raid took place around midnight on Thursday, sparking fear among residents in the surrounding community. Sources said the officers sought refuge in a nearby mosque, but the gunmen pursued them, opening fire with sophisticated weapons and setting the mosque ablaze. The same source suggested that rocket launchers might have been used during the assault.
In addition to the mosque, the attackers reportedly torched the officers’ quarters. This incident comes less than a month after a customs officer was killed and official vehicles were set on fire at the same Maje border area.
The Lakurawa group has been linked to multiple violent attacks across Kebbi State, often targeting security personnel and civilians. At the time of reporting, no official statement had been issued by authorities regarding the latest attack.
