Former Kano State governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has announced plans to launch a voluntary security outfit under the Ganduje Foundation, similar in role and function to the state’s Hisbah

The initiative aims to re-engage around 12,000 former Hisbah officers dismissed by the current administration, Daily Trust reports.

Ganduje described their removal as unfair while receiving a report from Dr Baffa Babba Dan‑Agundi, director‑general of the National Productivity Centre, who confirmed the officers’ identities and support for the project.

Ganduje noted that the security outfit will operate independently of government and welcome volunteers beyond the former officers, with a wider call for members to be issued soon.

Sheikh Muhammad Harun Ibn Sina, Ganduje’s former Hisbah commander general, will lead the new outfit called “Khairun Nas.” He said it will function purely on a voluntary basis, promoting moral conduct, discouraging wrongdoing, offering first aid, and providing guidance and assistance without acting as a government agency.

Ibn Sina added that participation is open to anyone interested, while future contributions may provide modest stipends. The group’s mission is to “enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong” while supporting the community.
