A former lawmaker who spoke to journalists on condition of anonymity dismissed the report circulating on social media, stressing that it was false and misrepresented the purpose of their recent meeting with Senator Barau.
He explained that the meeting was held at the senator’s invitation in his capacity as a senior figure in the Kano APC, adding that their discussions focused strictly on issues affecting the progress and unity of the party.
“We were surprised to see the report being circulated that we endorsed Barau to run for governor. That is completely untrue,” he said.
The group accused certain individuals of deliberately spreading misinformation to create tension within the party. They noted that the APC has a clear internal process for selecting candidates and pledged to support whoever emerges through the party’s official procedures.
