The directive followed a case filed by the Secretary of the market’s interim leadership, Sharhabilu Abdulkadir, challenging the conduct of the leadership headed by Abdullahi Sharu na Malam, alongside some of his associates, the Kano State Ministry of Commerce, and Ibrahim Tukur Gadanya.
In his suit, Sharhabilu argued that the interim executives were appointed for a three-month tenure but allegedly sought to extend their stay in office without adhering to due process. He further accused the leadership of running the market’s affairs contrary to the association’s constitution and sidelining him from key decision-making despite his role as secretary.
He therefore urged the court to suspend the leadership to allow for fair hearing and proper examination of the matter.
After listening to submissions from both sides, Justice Fatima Adamu granted the request and ordered the suspension of the interim leadership led by Abdullahi Sharu na Malam until the continuation of the case.
The court has adjourned the matter to December 3, 2025, for further hearing.
