In a statement issued by the Council’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, officially unveiled the centre in partnership with Barnfield Education Ltd (BEP Education), London.

According to the statement released in Minna, Niger State, on Sunday, Professor Wushishi made the announcement while delivering a keynote address at the Education Matters Conference UK 2025. The event was organised to raise awareness among education stakeholders about NECO’s growing presence in the United Kingdom.

Professor Wushishi said the establishment of the London centre marks a significant milestone in NECO’s commitment to promoting access to quality education beyond Nigeria’s borders. He explained that the initiative will enable Nigerians residing in the UK, especially students and adult learners who were unable to complete secondary school or obtain equivalent qualifications, to sit for NECO’s Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).

The Council also disclosed that it has established examination centres in eight other countries and is set to open additional centres in Burkina Faso and Egypt before the end of the year.

Sani added that NECO’s international expansion is part of the Council’s broader strategy to support Nigerians globally, ensuring they have access to recognised educational qualifications wherever they reside.
