The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning strike with immediate effect.

ASUU’s National President, Prof. Chris Piwuna, announced the decision during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, following an all-night National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.

According to Piwuna, the suspension came after the union reviewed progress made in negotiations with government representatives. He said the decision aims to create room for continued dialogue and ensure that issues affecting the university system are resolved amicably.

The union commended the federal government for returning to the negotiation table and acknowledged the support of students, parents, and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) throughout the process.

While announcing the suspension, ASUU emphasized that some of its core demands remain unresolved. These include the completion of the renegotiated 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement, payment of withheld salaries and outstanding allowances, improved funding for public universities, and an end to the victimization of lecturers in some institutions.

Prof. Piwuna noted that ASUU would continue to monitor the government’s commitment to its promises and would not hesitate to take further action if necessary.
