Speaking during his appearance before the Kano State Shura Council, Sheikh Abubakar emphasized his deep reverence for the Prophet, stressing that he believes in his message and teachings. He clarified that his statements were never intended to show disrespect but were wrongly portrayed by critics.
According to him, some of his video clips had been selectively edited in ways that distorted his message and could incite unnecessary tension. “I believe in the Prophet and his teachings; he is our savior,” Abubakar said. He apologized to those who might have been offended and sought forgiveness, explaining that any perceived offense was unintentional.
The allegations against him stemmed from remarks believed to have disrespected the Prophet’s physical attributes, birth, and parentage, a situation that drew concern from several religious leaders and civil society groups.
Chairman of the Kano State Shura Council, Sa’ad Gidado, urged Sheikh Abubakar to use his platform to promote unity and understanding among Muslims. He also advised him to avoid comments capable of causing division within the Islamic community.
Other scholars who attended the session also cautioned the cleric to exercise restraint in his public preaching, taking into account the sensitivity of religious issues. The council is expected to release further recommendations aimed at fostering peace and strengthening religious harmony across the state.
