The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 52-year-old businessman, Ejiofor Godwin Emeka, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) for attempting to smuggle cocaine into the country.

According to a statement released on Sunday, October 12, 2025, by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA headquarters in Abuja, Emeka was apprehended after a body scan revealed 127 wraps of cocaine concealed in his body.

The suspect, who reportedly owns boutiques in Lagos and Onitsha, arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET 941 on October 8, 2025. The recovered cocaine, weighing 1.388 kilograms, was hidden in his stomach and private parts.

Following the discovery, NDLEA operatives placed him under observation until he excreted some of the substances, confirming the smuggling attempt.

In a related development, NDLEA operatives also intercepted three consignments of illicit drugs bound for the United Kingdom at a courier company in Lagos. The intercepted packages contained methamphetamine, pentazocine, tramadol, and cannabis, cleverly concealed in glass ceramics, vitamin containers, and herbal packages.

Several suspects, including a freight agent and a cab driver, were arrested in connection with a separate shipment of rohypnol pills destined for South Africa.

Meanwhile, NDLEA’s state commands continued their operations across the country. In Edo State, officers recovered 47 kilograms of skunk during a raid at Ugbekpe Ekperi. In Osun, two suspects were arrested with 635 kilograms of skunk hidden in a vehicle. Similarly, operatives in Rivers State seized 8.5 kilograms of skunk, while a suspect in Katsina was caught with 29.5 kilograms of cannabis.

NDLEA said the arrests and seizures reflect its renewed efforts to curb drug trafficking and dismantle criminal networks across Nigeria.
