In its latest weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet predicted that Jigawa, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe, and Katsina will experience thunderstorms with moderate rainfall on Monday morning. The rains are also expected to extend to Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba later in the day.

The agency further projected cloudy conditions in parts of the central region, including Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, and Nasarawa, with light to moderate rainfall expected later in the day. It warned of a high risk of flooding in some parts of Plateau State.

For the southern region, NiMet predicted light to moderate rainfall in Ondo, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom throughout the forecast period.

According to the three-day weather outlook, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall will dominate northern states on Monday, with possible flash floods in Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano. By Tuesday, the north is expected to witness sunny skies with patches of clouds, while thunderstorms and rain will persist in Adamawa, Taraba, and neighbouring states. On Wednesday, sunshine will dominate most northern areas in the morning before thunderstorms set in later in the day, while cloudy skies and moderate rains are expected in the central region.

NiMet urged residents, especially those living in flood-prone communities, to take necessary precautions.

The agency advised against driving during heavy rainfall, recommended securing loose items, and encouraged disconnecting electrical appliances during storms. It also warned against seeking shelter under tall trees and urged the public to prepare for strong winds and possible drops in nighttime temperatures.
