According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect, who hails from Dakatsalle in Bebeji Local Government Area, was apprehended on October 2, 2025, around 6:00 p.m. following an intensive investigation by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad.

Police investigations revealed that the incident occurred on August 9, 2023, when the village head was abducted and robbed of N2.75 million, a Tecno Kevo 4 handset, and a wristwatch. The victim was, however, rescued as operatives repelled the kidnappers while they attempted to flee.

The statement noted that the suspect confessed to the crime and admitted receiving N6,000 as his share of the stolen money. He also identified several accomplices, including the late Bello Kici-Kici of Falgore Village in Doguwa LGA, who was killed during a police operation in Jigawa State; the late Mallam Sale of Gezawa LGA, who was neutralized during a robbery incident; and Ruwa Shehu of Gafan Village in Bebeji LGA, who is currently in a correctional facility for another kidnapping-related case.

Other suspects, including individuals identified as Ibrahim Gwanja, Sule Naye, and one yet-to-be-named accomplice, are currently under investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the operatives for their dedication and urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies to curb crime across the state.
