Some residents of Kano State have taken to the streets to show their support for the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, demanding that he remain in office to maintain peace in the state.

The protest took place on Thursday, with demonstrators carrying placards reading “Kano people love CP”, “He is a peace-loving officer”, and “Governor Abba, you are the source of insecurity in Kano”.

During the protest, Muhammad Sodangi described CP Bakori as a peace-oriented officer. “We believe that the CP deserves support. He is doing well to maintain peace and unity in Kano State. We demand his stay so that peace can continue to prevail,” he said.

Mustapha Ibrahim added, “We are here on behalf of all the people of Kano to show our support for CP Bakori. Since his arrival, we have been confident in his leadership.”

Nafisa Ismail, Chairlady, Women Lawyers Association, Kano, emphasized that the protest was a response to what they perceive as a politically motivated attempt to recall the commissioner.

The demonstration came a day after Governor Abba Yusuf called for CP Bakori’s removal following the Kano Police Command’s withdrawal from participating in the 65th Independence Day Parade at Sani Abacha Stadium. The governor described the withdrawal as unpatriotic, unprofessional, and unethical, claiming it undermined a celebration eagerly anticipated by the people of Kano.

“The people of Kano deserve honest and fair security officers who protect lives and property without bias,” Governor Yusuf said. “We do not want individuals who come to create problems in a state where peace has been sustained.” He added that he plans to submit a formal complaint to the President regarding CP Bakori’s conduct.
