The announcement was made on Monday in Abuja by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

While the parade will no longer hold, Imohiosen stressed that the development does not reduce the significance of the Independence celebrations. He confirmed that all other events and programs scheduled for the anniversary will continue as planned.

The government did not provide a reason for the parade’s cancellation but expressed appreciation for the understanding and cooperation of Nigerians, the diplomatic corps, and invited guests. In the statement, the FG also encouraged citizens to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s reforms aimed at fostering national growth and development.
