Gunmen stormed a mosque in Yandoto village, Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing at least five worshippers and abducting several others.

The attack happened during early morning prayers on Friday, when the assailants opened fire on congregants, leaving many injured before whisking away an unspecified number of people into the forest. Some of the wounded victims are currently receiving medical attention, Daily Trust reports.

The latest incident has deepened fears in the community, coming barely a week after gunmen abducted about 40 worshippers during dawn prayers in Gidan Turbe village, also in Tsafe LGA.

When contacted, the Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said he had not yet been briefed on the matter.
