The office was reopened on Tuesday after being sealed during Akpoti Uduaghan’s suspension on March 6, 2025, over alleged breaches of Senate standing rules. A Federal High Court had on July 4, 2025, declared the suspension excessive and unconstitutional.
Atiku stated this in a statement, saying the development underscores the power of collective resistance and shows that Nigerians can only overcome tyranny when they stand together. He linked Akpoti Uduaghan’s ordeal to what he described as a wider pattern of democratic suppression under President Bola Tinubu’s government.
He pointed to the suspension of Rivers State Governor Simi Fubara and some lawmakers as examples of efforts to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Atiku added that the opposition would continue to resist such actions through legal and democratic means, stressing that protecting Nigeria’s democratic system remains a priority.
